Certain points to remember

1.LASIK reduces the thickness of your cornea. Your doctor will after these test put a realistic picture of the exact amount of reduction possible & thus help you decide.
2.Please remember to give exact details of any allergy, disease or any medications that you are on.
3.LASIK helps reducing dependence on glasses may not completely eliminate their use. Please be realistic and don't be afraid to discuss these pre-procedure.


Day of the Procedure

1.Avoid a late night and drinks the day before the procedure.
2.You can have a good hair bath.
3.Please Avoid Perfumes of all kinds on that day.
4.Please reach the centre on the appointed time with a relative.


The LASIK Experience

1.A consent form will have to be signed.
2.Drops will be started in both your eyes.
3.You will be taken into the procedure/OT room & will be made to lie down below the machine. There will be no injection or pain but there may be a mild discomfort.
4.A clip will be used to keep your lids open. 5.You will be requested to look in the blinking light above.
6.When the skin is raised you may feel pressure & hear a machine noise. This will be demonstrated to you before. Don't panic at this point; it barely takes a few seconds.
7.Throughout the procedure you way feel some water flowing in your eye.
8.The entire procedure takes about 5-7 minutes.
9.After one eye is lasered the same is repeated in the other eye.
10.Don't squeeze your eye after the procedure.
11.You will be given dark glasses to wear.


Post-procedure

Your doctor will re-examine you after 10-15 minutes.
You will have to put drops in your eyes.


Some dos & donts post procedure

1.Do not squeeze or rub your eyes.
2.Gently wipe tears using a clean, freshly washed cotton handkerchief from your cheeks.
3.Your can take a shower after one week. Dont splash water on your eyes for at least a week. You will have to wear dark glasses for 3-4 days, however light work including reading, watching TV can be attempted after 2-4 days.
4.You can resume work after 3 days depending on your doctor's advice.
5.You may experience mild dryness of your eyes for which drops will be required for as much as 2-3 months. This, be rest assured, is temporary.
6.Your vision will improve within a couple of days after the procedure.
